That is Abraham Lincoln (I don’t think he had a middle name – I can’t find one) and Charles Robert Darwin.
Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky and Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK, both on this date and both, strangely enough, in 1809.
Lincoln was a self-taught lawyer, passing the bar in 1837. He was also voted as Captain of a volunteer group fighting the Black Hawk war in 1832. At 22 he moved by himself to New Salem, Ill., then to Springfield after becoming a lawyer. he married Mary Todd in 1842. The rest, as they say, is history.
Darwin’s father hoped he would be a doctor like himself but the schooling didn’t match his interest. Next his father suggested he become a parson. Darwin received an “ordinary” degree from Christ’s College in Cambridge. Soon after his graduation, in 1831, he was taken on a journey on the HMS Beagle which let to his book, The Origin of Species by Mean of Natural Selection in 1859 (he was 50 y.o. at the time).
